Experience & Activities
Festus Segun Ajiboye is a multidisciplinary researcher and academic whose work spans the fields of bioinformatics, computer science, and biomedical engineering. He holds a Master of Science in Bioinformatics from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where he conducted cutting-edge research in spatial transcriptomics and therapeutic drug discovery. He also earned a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan and a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University in Nigeria. His research interests include machine learning for medicine, spatial variable gene identification, deep generative models, Bayesian modeling, causal inference, and computational approaches to understanding disease progression. At IUPUI, he worked as a Graduate Research Assistant under the supervision of Professors Jingwen Yan and Juexin Wang, contributing to the development of EMB models for Alzheimer’s disease and methods for identifying spatially variable genes using the BSP algorithm. Before his time at IUPUI, Festus served as a Lecturer in Software Development Modelling at the Federal School of Statistics in Nigeria, where he taught courses in software engineering, cloud computing, databases, and mobile app development. He also worked as a Data Analyst Supervisor with the National Bureau of Statistics and as a Programming Teaching Assistant at the Federal Technical College Lassa Borno State. He has earned certifications including Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst, PCAP (Python Certified Associate Programmer), and a Bioinformatics Training Certificate (IBT). His work has been presented at international conferences such as the BPDA conference in Atlanta and the PFP 3-Minute Thesis competition, where he was awarded second runner-up. Festus has authored several publications on therapeutic drug targeting in sickle cell disease, genomic signatures of NGS sequences, RNA-seq analysis, and the application of machine learning in regulatory frameworks. He is passionate about merging data science with medical research to enhance diagnostic tools and personalized treatment strategies. Outside the lab, Festus serves as an international student ambassador for the bioinformatics department at IUPUI and volunteers as a University Police Cadet, where he assists with emergency medical response and campus safety. He is also the founder and CEO of Festyronic Communications, a technology company providing digital solutions and hosting services in Nigeria.
Currently, he works at Neurodiagnostic Institute(NDI) Indianapolis Indian state as one of the psychosis therapeutic treatment intervention for mental health patient. A native of Nigeria, Festus speaks Yoruba and English fluently. His long-term goal is to become a thought leader in global bioinformatics and healthcare innovation, contributing to cross-continental research collaboration and developing scalable health tech solutions for underserved populations.
