Experience & Activities

Arunprasath Muthuramalingam is a Mechanical Design Engineer whose career demonstrates the practical application of engineering innovation to advanced medical technology. With more than a decade of experience designing Class I, II, and III electro-mechanical medical devices, he has contributed to the development, refinement, testing, and validation of technologies used in critical healthcare environments. His expertise spans mechanical design, FEA simulation, prototyping, design for manufacturing, design for assembly, tolerance analysis, and electromechanical systems.

At HeartStream, formerly Philips Emergency Care, Arunprasath works on Class III medical devices including Automatic External Defibrillators and life-support systems, applying rigorous engineering processes and international medical device standards. Previously, as a Lead Engineer at HCL Technologies supporting Siemens Healthineers, he conceptualized products, developed prototypes, conducted risk analysis and DFMEA, and managed product lifecycle processes.

His record includes several notable engineering achievements. He redesigned a medical device cartridge clamp from three components into a single-part solution, generating reported annual savings of USD 300,000, and contributed to the development of a Class II Blood Gas Analyzer from concept through engineering prototype. He also developed automation and reliability fixtures that increased testing capacity from 100 to 300 cycles per day and reduced an assembly cycle from one minute to 14 seconds.

His innovation portfolio further includes a multi-defibrillator module for external defibrillators and an actuation system for an automatic CPR device. With a Master of Technology in Design Engineering and strong expertise in CAD, simulation, prototyping, and product development, Arunprasath brings valuable industry experience and applied engineering innovation to the Institute of STEM Innovation and Excellence.
